Assategue Island Maryland Fishing Trip - Logan Pieffer
I headed to Assateague this past weekend from Thursday - Tuesday to show a couple friend the Shore Shot Bait Caster. The first two days were a bust with day time temps pushing almost 119 degrees on the beach. We only had one hit which broke right through a 135lb. leader.
Saturday night we were about to start packing up our stuff and all of a sudden my dad yelled "FISH ON!". I grabbed the second fishing rod to get it out of the way and the fish started pulling back after about a 20min battle i realized my dad and my best friend were hooked into the same shark. It ended up being a Sand Tiger shark weighing in around 200lbs.
The following day it rained almost all day so we hung out at the camper. On Monday we hit the beach about two hours before high tide with no bites untill the tide was completely in. Then, all of a sudden, I saw my fishing rod headed into the surf. My buddy Groff ran and grabbed the rod and that was soon followed by three more sharks landed and put back.
The guy fishing next to us was amazed by the SSBC. He want to catch a shark to so I hooked him up with the steel leader and bunker and, believe it or not, this guy boogie boarded his bait out about 300yds. He hooked up with a small Sand Tiger shark.
My family headed home Tuesday morning but I decided to fish the whole day. We blasted out our fist two baits and sat down to eat. I had just said to Groff "I wish those would start ripping drag" to which he responded back "at least wait till we finish our subs". I had just taken the last bite when, ironically, the fishing rod jumped out of the rod holder and we had a fish on. We also had a huge ray hooked for about 45 minutes but it snapped the line only about 30yds from the surf. All in all, it was a great weekend spent fishing in Assateague Island, Maryland. We landed 11 sharks and showed the SSBC to a ton of people on the beach.
