Huge Weekend Shark Fishing WIth The Shore Shot

posted July 30, 2011

FOF kicked shark week off with a bang on July 30-31st. blasting 50 baits and landing 28 sharks! That’s right…28 sharks; a bunch of thick ones ranging from 50 – 150 lbs. all good fighters and released safely.

We hit the beach at 6:30 Saturday morning to an incoming tide. We set up with help from my girlfriend Sheri and her new "Greenhorn" son Shane who has been anticipating his first shark. Shane was a big help during the unloading process which always lightens the load for the old guys. It wasn’t long before our FOF teammates Mike and Kim Costanzo pulled up. We blasted out a couple baits as we watched the tide start to go out. The sun pounded us for hours with no bites so Shane and I decided to go swimming only to turn back and see Mike running for our rod! From that point on it was game on! It was shark after shark with no time to relax. It was bait’em and blast’em, catch’em and un hook’em all day long.

Shane started off with a small shark for his first one but ended up with a stud 50 pounder for his third. After proving himself in landing the sharks, we moved him up to the “Ram Rod” position which he performed very well. As with most greenhorns, he still needs a lot of work but he proved he can hang with the big boys. Kim grabbed a rod and hooked up with a nice thick shark of her own. Before we knew it we were at 19 sharks. We wanted Sheri to catch the 20th but it just wasn't meant to be so we called it a day.

The next day it was the same scenario, no bites at high tide. We waited for the tide to bottom out and started blasting and what do you know started hooking up again. There were guys on both sides of us with rods everywhere just watching us pull’em in. Most had to come over and check it out. All were impressed. We only had 14 baits the second day and landed 9 more nice sharks. The last three landed by our new friend, “Last Minute Bryen Deutsch.” We had three baits left so we blasted them for him with the same results. I think He's becoming a believer. He has officially made the FOF team!

I want to give a shout out to the camera girls, Kim and Sheri. Great job girls! Thanks so much.
